Writing Milestone Achieved! September 24, 2024September 22, 2024 I recently hit a huge writing milestone: I finished writing my first novel! This is a story that I have been working on on and off for the past 15+ years. I knew when this year started, that I wanted to commit to writing and completing a novel, no excuses, no allowing my perfectionist tendencies to gatekeep me from this goal that I have wanted to achieve my entire life. So, I dove in, and here I am, about eight months later, with a completed manuscript that I feel good about. Now, I am in the process of writing my agent query letter so that I can hopefully find representation and an advocate to help me secure a publishing deal. Despite how I’ve done a ton of research on writing a query letter, and the pitch process in general, it’s still so freakin’ hard to condense a 127K word novel into a 300-word query letter. I’m currently narrowing down my selection of book hooks, and I am beyond proud of myself that I was able to write a book synopsis at about 150 words – seriously. That felt like the climbing Mt. Everest of pitching hahaha. In the past, when it came to my writing, I would let my ego get in the way and send me down these rabbit holes of overanalyzing everything, and trying to make everything “perfect.” But these days, I’m trying so hard to toe that line between nailing the standards but also allowing my intuition to guide and support me through this endeavor. So, here’s hoping that an amazing agent reads my letter and feels drawn to me and my story and is super excited to represent me and help me get an incredible publishing deal!
